October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, a time to recognize and create space for those who have experienced the loss of a child. It is a moment to remember those who are no longer with us and to honor their lives. Pregnancy and infant loss can take many forms, including miscarriage and stillbirth, and affect individuals in different ways. This month is essential not only for raising awareness and acknowledging the grief that many silently endure, but also for educating and supporting those who are currently experiencing it. Infant and pregnancy loss affects many. In the U.S., statistics show that one in every four pregnancies ends in miscarriage, and one in every 160 pregnancies ends in stillbirth (Sosanya, 2023).

Get Involved: 

• Participate in the International Wave of Light on Sunday, October 15th at 7PM EST. Light a candle and keep it lit for one hour, as the wave of light passes throughout the world. The Wave of Light is an opportunity to join with bereaved parents, families and friends around the globe to commemorate all babies gone too soon.  
• Share your baby’s story. Share their names and keep their memories alive. 
• Listen. If you know someone who experienced a loss, be there for them as they grieve. 
• Attend a local event in your community that honors and recognizes babies who have passed away.

Event: “Walk to Remember” Remembering Our Babies Gone Too Soon

• About: Join the Department of Ministry and Pastoral Care for the annual 2025 Walk to Remember, an event dedicated to honoring and remembering our precious babies gone too soon during Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. The walk will take place on Thursday, October 9th from 5pm-6pm at the Womack Army Medical Center on Rock Merritt Avenue. This event, addressing grief and nurturing bereavement, is free and open to the Fort Bragg community. Event: Remembering Our Little Angels 3K Awareness Walk

• About: The “Remembering Our Little Angels” 3K Awareness Walk is a compassionate community event dedicated to honoring and remembering babies lost to miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss. This walk serves as a powerful symbol of unity and hope for mothers, couples, and families who have experienced unimaginable grief, offering them a supportive space to reflect, connect, and heal. More than just a walk, this event raises vital awareness around pregnancy and infant loss—an often overlooked yet deeply personal experience. Funds raised go directly towards supporting our H.O.P.E. Initiative, which includes outreach in the form of providing comfort and care boxes, resources, as well as partner referrals for grieving families.
