Our goal is to help students better understand geometry through the use of digital, animated materials and contrasting cases. The project aims to help students think critically about mathematics and understand common misconceptions in geometry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Erin Krupa, Ph.D. – Principal Investigator<\/h3>\n \n\n \t \t

A former high school math teacher, Krupa pursued a Ph.D. to impact education by working with future and practicing teachers on improving mathematics instruction. Her research focuses on improving the quality of mathematics teaching and learning through innovative curricular materials and professional development.<\/p>\n\t \t \n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n\n

Jon Star, Ph.D. – Co-Principal Investigator<\/h3>\n \n\n \t \t

A professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Star studies the learning of mathematics in middle and high school, with a particular focus on algebra. His research focuses on the development of flexibility in mathematical problem solving and instructional and curricular interventions that promote the development of mathematical understanding.<\/p>\n\t \t \n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n\n

Brianna Bentley – Graduate Research Assistant<\/h3>\n \n\n \t \t

Bentley began her research career at Appalachian State University during her master’s program, where she studied college students’ understanding of fractions. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Math Education at NC State, where her research focuses on developmental mathematics programs at community colleges.<\/p>\n\t \t \n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n\n

Josh Mannix – Graduate Research Assistant<\/h3>\n \n\n \t \t

Mannix is pursuing his Ph.D. in Math Education at NC State. His research interests include math anxiety, specifically as it affects teachers at the secondary levels. Other areas of interest include non-Euclidean geometries and proof at the secondary level.<\/p>\n\t \t \n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n\n

Katie Burkett – Graduate Research Assistant<\/h3>\n \n\n \t \t

Katie began her graduate studies at N.C. State, earning her Master’s in Pure Mathematics. She is now pursuing her Ph.D. in Math Education at NC State. Katie’s research interests include the impact of curriculum and instruction on student learning at the secondary and post secondary levels. She is also interested in the math content knowledge of preservice secondary teachers. <\/p>\n\t \t \n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
