This program consists of a weeklong summer seminar and a year-long professional learning program focused on facilitating meaningful classroom discussions about civic engagement, dissent, and University in Raleigh*<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Monthly online cohort meetings during the 2026-2027 school year<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Compensation: $2,000 stipend ($1,000 after the weeklong summer seminar and $1,000 after the community of practice (CoP) monthly meetings).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>*The program has limited funding for educators who might need hotel accommodations in Raleigh.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What You\u2019ll Do<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><em>Participate<\/em><\/strong> in an intellectually rich, collaborative, <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.ced.ncsu.edu\/acefellows\/summer-seminar-on-dissent-and-deliberation-as-defining-democratic-values\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"35\">week-long summer seminar<\/a> led by NC State faculty focusing on civic ideals, American democracy, and its global legacy followed by engagement in a monthly <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.ced.ncsu.edu\/acefellows\/community-of-practice\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"41\">Community of Practice<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><em>Practice <\/em><\/strong>with evidence-based, developmentally-appropriate discussion strategies for middle school students, including Structured Academic Controversy, Drama of the Commons, Tug of War, Socratic Seminar, and Debate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><em>Experiment <\/em><\/strong>with curricular tools aligned with NC standards for grades 6-9 with an emphasis on social studies and English language arts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What You\u2019ll Get<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Year-round collaborative support<\/strong> through monthly online <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.ced.ncsu.edu\/acefellows\/community-of-practice\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"41\">Communities of Practice<\/a> meetings where you&#8217;ll share successes, troubleshoot challenges, and co-create lessons with peers and NC State faculty.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Targeted, sustained support<\/strong> hosting a community-wide <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.ced.ncsu.edu\/acefellows\/dining-with-democracy\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"43\">Dining with Democracy <\/a>event where students lead civil discussions on current issues with parents and community members.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Access to a comprehensive toolkit<\/strong> with free online resources, discussion protocols, primary source reading strategies, and event planning guides.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Future Events<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Don&#8217;t live in central NC?
